A large pet store chain, Four Paws, began to install self-checkout machines (SCO) in their shops. The new automatic cashiers were developed and manufactured by Touchplat based on their classic model QP-50, which works in many retail chains. The developer equipped the customized SCO with a 1D/2D barcode scanner built into the case, a bracket for the fiscal registrar used in Four Paws, and a handheld barcode reader for scanning bulky purchases. In addition, Touchplat designers developed a mounting kit for this project that embeds the self-checkout machine in the furniture used in Four Paws shops.
This summer, at the opening of the 400th Four Paws store in Moscow, the company put new self-checkout machines into operation. After the pilot launch, the company evaluated its effectiveness and decided to scale the project in its other stores. So now automated cashiers are being massively installed at Four Paws sales points throughout the country.
It is not the first cooperation between Touchplat and Four Paws. In 2019, the companies launched self-order kiosks for purchasing goods in pet stores. The self-servicing was in high demand among Four Paws customers. That is why the companies continue to expand this practice.
Why do stores install self-checkout machines?
Touchplat specialists, who have worked with retail chains for more than seven years and have sufficient expert knowledge in this area, believe that self-service checkouts in stores solve several problems for a relatively small cost.
First, they help eliminate queues during rush hours. It directly affects customers’ experience and satisfaction with the service speed and quality. According to Touchplat’s CEO, this is the key motive of self-checkout machine installation in most cases.
Secondly, SCO serves as an excellent advertising and marketing tool. Large touchscreen displays (27 or 32 inches) are visible from afar. In standby mode, they demonstrate dynamic content, drawing the customers’ attention to new products, promotions, and loyalty programs.
