Major, the official dealer of 46 car brands, has begun introducing a contactless service system in its dealerships. Automated kiosk manufacturer, Touchplat, created self-service lockers for the system, and Major engineers developed the software. The digital kiosk allows Major’s customers to take their cars for routine maintenance contactless without encountering the staff. Before going to a dealership, car owners book an appointment online. Then they can bring the vehicle to the selected dealership at a convenient day and time and leave the car keys in a reserved cell of the self-service terminal.
The kiosks, manufactured for Major dealerships, are similar to Amazon lockers. They have 38 cells, controlled through a touchscreen display and embedded barcode or QR code scanner to open the reserved cell. An automated storage system ensures the safety of car keys in the cells and can be used to transfer documents or small orders to customers.
The kiosks in the current version do not accept payments for maintenance services. But with a small modification, they will able to do that. The locker structure allows the installation of POS terminals, card readers, bill acceptors, equipment for printing checks, and security surveillance cameras. The manufacturer can easily change the locker configuration if the car dealers need that.
At the end of 2021, Hyundai introduced a similar contactless service at its dealerships. And Hyundai also chose the self-service lockers produced by Touchplat.
